Laser for Tattoo Removal

Applying tattoos on the body is popular among the younger generation. They are a form of decorative body modification and are more popular than ever. Tattooing is applied with needles using special ink or other pigments into the dermis layer of the skin. Tattoos were once considered permanent; however, it is now possible to remove them with certain treatments. There are many reasons why you may want to remove a tattoo. Whatever the reasons, the most effective and safest way to remove tattoos is laser treatment. Laser treatment allows for the removal of tattoos of various sizes, colors, and shapes. Laser treatment is often safer than many traditional methods due to its unique ability to selectively manipulate the pigment in the tattoo. Blue and black tattoos respond well to laser treatment.

Procedure

The tattoo removal process can last from several minutes to an hour depending on the size and type of tattoo. Anesthesia may be required depending on the location of the tattoo and the patient’s pain threshold. If necessary, topical numbing cream or pain-relieving injections may be used at the treatment site. You will be given protective eye shields to wear during treatment. The area on and around the tattoo is cleaned to remove oils on the skin. Laser light passes harmlessly through the top layer of skin. When light hits brown pigment cells, energy is released. This released energy is then absorbed by specific pigments (colors) within the tattoo. Multiple sessions scheduled four weeks apart are usually needed to achieve desired results.

Postoperative care

After laser treatment, follow the following measures to get better results and avoid any complications.
